Union School S.D. # 2264 1911 -1950
Union School district is south and east of Vermilion. At first the school was kept open for very short terms, usually May 1 to October 31. There was no water well, thus students carried water from nearby neighbors. Some interesting things happened to the water on the journey back to the school. An interesting story is about a frog being caught and then put in the water on the way back to the school. I guess there were no water laws then.
Union was my school from grades one to six (1944 -1950). There was a fairly large enrollment my first year and then it just kept getting smaller. The school closed in 1950. A cairn had been placed there a few years ago, so the school site marker was placed beside it.
