Preston School 1910 – 1954

Preston School was in the Wildmere district south of Vermilion. The first settler in the district came in 1905, but there were not enough students to warrant a school until 1910.

When the school closed in 1954, the students were sent by bus to the new Preston Central School, which was situated a few miles down the road. The school building was moved up the road about a mile and became the Wildmere United Church.

Due to the fact that there is no longer a road going by the old Preston School site, the community opted to put the sign near the road one mile north. Directions pointing to the old location will be attached to the sign. Thanks to Doug Westman, Jim Dibben and Ryan Gibson for doing the work of getting the sign up.
