Greetings from the President
Hello Everyone, September 2022
It was wonderful to see so many of our members attending our “Thank Goodness I’m Retired” Breakfast in Paradise! Thank you to everyone willing to be part of our executive or a district representative. We still need reps for Lethbridge Public and Holy Spirit so contact me if you are interested. It is important to have new faces as well as experienced ones to ensure we continue to have a vibrant branch.
After the breakfast we met together as an executive and had a wonderful brainstorming session about ideas on how to inform our newly retired teachers about ARTA and all the benefits of joining. ARTA is also doing its best to find new ways to get the message out about the great benefits, especially the travel plan. The full implementation of ARTA Rx has been unexpectedly delayed but will operate in Edmonton for now.
Since the Provincial Government’s decisions such as the TWINS registry have not been popular with the teachers, a provincial rally is being planned by the ATA for October 22nd with teachers being bused to the Edmonton Parliament Building. They will welcome our retired teachers if any would like to participate.
Don’t forget the deadline of November 19th for the story, poem or vignette competition – you must be an ARTA member to participate. We are also considering bringing back the In-Body Composition Clinic sessions if there is interest. If you participated in the past let us know if it was beneficial.
I hope everyone comes out October 13th for our general meeting (we will try to keep it short but informative) followed by a presentation by our very own Carol Koran. I am definitely looking forward to it! See you there.
Terry Whitehead
