MINUTES and Briefing Notes of Regular Meeting of PARKLAND AREA RETIRED TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION (PARTA)

October 8, 2024

 

Statement of Welcome

President, Iona Robertson, welcomed those in attendance and acknowledged meeting on Treaty 6 and 8 First Nations’ land.

 

President’s Report:

The President gave a brief report on the activities attended since our last PARTA meeting:

  • August 14 – ARTA Board of Directors’ Meeting via Zoom
  • September 4 – ARTA Local 10 Meeting via Zoom
  • September 7 – Edmonton Retired Teachers’ Second Wind Conference. The President noted that this event requires volunteers and, in particular, someone willing to accept the position of Chairperson. PARTA donates $250.00 to the event yearly and many of our members enjoy this day of presenters and fellowship.
  • September 10-11 – ARTA Board of Directors’ Meeting. Prior to this meeting, the President attended a President’s meeting via Zoom convened by the ARTA Communications Committee and chaired by Laurie PARTA member, Ron Thompson was in attendance.
  • October 1-2 – ARTA Annual General PARTA delegates included our Vice

President, Bill Fraser, and new PARTA member, Cheryl Dawes. Member, Laurie Semler attended in her role as Chair of the Communications Committee.

  • October 2 – ATA Local 10 Monthly The President and Bill Fraser attended.
  • ARTA/PARTA Membership – Remember to ensure that your PARTA and ARTA annual membership is up to date. ARTA does online registration and e-transfers.

 

Information from ARTA 2024 Annual General Meeting

  • The Teachers’ Retirement Fund is now 100% This means that the assets are greater than the liabilities.
  • There are 58 ARTA members over the age of
  • ARTA’s ACER-CART representative, Marilyn Bossert, requested that those present remind their members about this important organization for Canadian Retired Teachers.
  • Only 2300 Alberta retired teachers are members of local
  • 32 064 retired Alberta teachers are members of
  • There are 29 696 Benefit Plan
  • Elections were held for vacant committee and executive Deb Gerow continues as ARTA President. Ray Hogart is the Vice-President.

Discussion

The President and members shared and discussed possible topics for future meetings and perks that are currently available through MyARTA as well as through local venues.
