WRTA Christmas Gathering
The Wainwright Retired Teachers’ Association (WRTA) held their annual Christmas luncheon today at Grace United Church with 18 people present, four of them new members. Everyone brought some food items for the Food Bank and gifts for the Kinsmen Christmas Wish program.
Guest speakers were nurses Phyllis Slimmon and Brandi Vold from Alberta Mental Health who talked about Aging Well and Mindfulness. They presented some informative ideas and suggestions, and left everyone with sheets on “How to Enjoy a Chocolate Mediation,” and “Practice Basic Meditation for Stress Management.”
Tuan Lieu attended and took pictures of our event. I’m hoping to include some of these pictures in the next Alberta Retired Teacher’s Association newspaper, news&views. Members decided to work at a couple of mini markets next year, in May and October, to help raise money for the organization. These markets are held the second Saturday of the month, beginning in March, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Prairie Rose Centre. Soups, sandwiches and pies will be made to sell, as well as coffee, tea and bottled water. A new manager has taken over from Darlene Germann who has retired. Irene Lousier will start next year.
After a delicious turkey and all the trimmings meal, prepared by the UCW, members left with wishes for a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019. Their next get together will be on the first day of school in 2019 at the “To Hell With the Bell” breakfast at St. Thomas Anglican Church at 8:30 a.m.
