NOVEMBER 2022 WCRTA COMMUNICATION

Reminder to save Friday, December 9 on your calendars for the WCRTA Christmas Luncheon. Watch for details soon. This will be our first Christmas function since 2019 so we are looking forward to getting together again.

 

Our WCRTA branch held its Welcome to Retirement/To Hell With the Bell Breakfast on Aug. 25, 2022. There were 43 in attendance. This event also functioned as our AGM. The executive elected for the 2022-2023 year are as follows:
President – Frank Tschabold
Vice President – Rob Pearn
Past President – Juanita Knight
Treasurer – Devin Pfah
Secretary – Barb Leidl
Rob Pearn and Doug Gill have volunteered as our ARTA representatives once that role resumes.
Eldred Stamp was recognized with a life membership.
New retirees Denise Henry and Rod Ince were recognized.
Dorothy Ungstad paid tribute to the following colleagues and spouses that passed away in the past year: John Bauer, Laurence Anderson, Anne Neff, Richard McElroy, Nellie Finnell, Art Szynkowski, Thomas Webber, Lenora Carter, Maureen Thomas, and Stanley Kalita.
Karen Klassen and Doug Gill were our top participants in the ARTA Wellness Challenge in the spring.

Lawrence Hrycan presented information about the Canadian Association of Retired Teachers.

 

At the November ARTA board meeting there will be an election for directors for the Alberta Retired Teachers Charitable Foundation. If this opportunity is something that you are interested in let me know. Nomination packages must be submitted by Nov. 10.

 

Reminder of the Nov. 18 deadline for submissions to the ARTA Writing Contest.

 

The ARTA AGM was held on October 4 and 5 in Edmonton. Your WCRTA delegates were Merv Leidl, Rob Pearn, Karen Klassen, and Frank Tschabold. In addition to the usual business there was a presentation from the executive of the ATA and a presentation from the Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund. During elections there were three WCRTA members that were elected to positions with ARTA. Lawrence Hrycan was elected to the executive committee as treasurer. Maria Lentz was elected to the communications committee. Rob Pearn was elected to the strategic planning and advocacy committee.
