JULY 2021 WCRTA COMMUNICATION
I hope everyone is staying well and enjoying being able to connect with family and friends again and being able to return to more normal activities even if it is in a cautious way.
We are hopeful that our branch will also be able to return to holding our usual functions starting with our breakfast in September. We have retirees from both last year and this year to recognize and congratulate in person and those on our memorial list to pay tribute to. Over the next couple of weeks, we will watch to see what the effect of the reopening is in combination with the Delta variant. If it seems like it would be responsible to hold our breakfast, I will send out a quick e-mail poll in early August to determine how many would feel safe to attend and then proceed accordingly.
ARTA Wellness Challenge – If anyone still has results to submit please forward them to me by July 25th so that I can send in our branch results before the end of the month.
Your assistance is needed. Like so many other things in the past 16 months, our normal processes for identifying new retirees in the area was partly disrupted last year and mostly disrupted this year. We need your assistance in helping to identify the new retirees from this year in both the Wolf Creek schools and Catholic schools. If you are aware of any new retirees please assist in getting them connected with me to get them on our contact list and joining the branch. There are still four retirees from 2020 that I have been unable to contact as well – two from JS McCormick in Lacombe, one from LJHS, and one from Eckville Elem. Thank you for your help with this. At any time if you are aware of retired teachers from elsewhere that have moved into the area or may not be on our contact list in Lacombe and Ponoka Counties or used to teach here and are interested in keeping contact we would appreciate your assistance.
WCRTA website – WCRTA now has a website hosted on the ARTA Branches website – www.artabranches.net – please go on and check it out.
ARTA reminders:
- 2021 ARTA scholarship application deadline is July 31st.
- 2021 ARTA writing contest deadline is Nov. 12th.
The ARTA AGM is coming up in October at which time there will be elections for the ARTA executive and for members on the six committees. Check out information about being involved in the provincial association on the ARTA website if this is something that may interest you. When information about nomination packages is available at a later date I will let you know.
As a branch we are appreciative to the leadership taken by ARTA staff and elected members, and particularly ARTA president Lorna McIlroy and CEO Daniel Mulloy on advocacy with the many issues important to our members and with the many challenges this past year has presented.
