November 2020 Newsletter

Friends and Colleagues

First, a big thank you to FRTA members for paying your 2020-2021 fees.  We have over ninety members.

We have two membership draw winners.  Congratulations!

The ARTA Annual General Meeting took place virtually by ZOOM on October 6 and 7, 2020 with approximately 90 delegates and guests in attendance.  Cynthia, Myrna and Carol attended on behalf of FRTA.

The ARTA office has moved to:
15505 137 Ave NW
Edmonton
T5V 1R9

There are now 25,390 active members in ARTA.  This includes retired teachers and private and public sector retirees who belong to the ARTA Benefit Plan.

Over the past year the Alberta Retired Teachers Charitable Foundation has provided support for four organizations:

Parkinson Association of Alberta, Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Alzhheimer Society Alberta & NWT, and CNIB Foundation.

ATRF (Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund) reported and that report is on our FRTA website.  The Fund will be moved to AIMCo in 2021.  Many active teachers and retirees oppose this move especially in light of the recent debacle.

Garry Hoffart is the ARTA Volunteer recipient for 2020.  The tribute is on our webpage.  Congratulations Garry!

If you have read a good book and would like to share highlights, please send it to me and I will post it.

I am sorry that we are still unable to meet.  Let’s hope for a vaccine sooner than later.

Please continue to check our website often.

STAY WELL  STAY SAFE  STAY ACTIVE
