Pediatric Kindergarten Tour Facilitator
In this position, you will be welcomed and lead various local Kindergarten classes through an educational program developed by the Pediatric Unit to help young children learn more about Hospitals and Pediatric medicine. The purpose of the program is to help dispel myths that children might have about Hospitals and lessen their anxiety about coming to Hospitals. Each 1 ½ hour tour session consists of an educational video about Pediatric medicine, several hands-on activities that the students participate in and a physical tour of our Hospital’s Pediatric Unit. At least two (possibly three) trained Tour Facilitators to lead each tour session, along with several adult helpers (including the teacher and EAs) who are delegated by the Tour Facilitators to help supervise the centre activities and help with the tour of the unit.
The ideal candidate has experience and passion for working with school-age children, is comfortable presenting in front of a group of students/parents, is comfortable in a health care setting, is able to work with limited supervision, and demonstrates patience and understanding when interacting with others. Healthcare or medical background is an asset but not required. Must be available to volunteer once a week from February – May 2020 on Mondays OR Tuesdays from 9:00 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3:00 pm.
