CARTA Memo March 2023
March – In like a lion and out like a lamb. Hopefully that old proverb will hold true this year. But the snow just keeps on getting deeper.

CARTA In Body Sessions:
We would like to bring the In Body Machine back with additional sessions throughout the day. If you have ideas for sessions and activities during the day please let us know.
This is the information about this program:
Through the partnership with ARTA, Humanacare provides the personnel and the machine, the InBody composition machine which does the actual biometric testing.
Bridgette McMullen is the present person from HumanaCare. Individuals are pre-booked into appointments and go one at a time and have their 15-20 minutes with Bridgette and the machine! The biometric testing through the Inbody machine includes height, weight, body mass index, skeletal muscle mass, and lean body mass. This gives members an idea of their overall body composition and through dialogue with Bridgette they learn about ways to maintain or improve body composition. She will also measure blood pressure, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms and can indicate a need for diet and lifestyle changes. Additionally, Bridgette will offer finger-stick Hemoglobin A1C testing. This is a very easy procedure that only requires a few drops of blood from the finger to test the average blood glucose. This can provide information about whether a person’s blood sugar is on average or too high, leading to possible screenings for diabetes or pre-diabetes.
These services are offered in conjunction with community resources and general lifestyle and health management consultation for the allotted time with the RN. Topics may include physical activity, medication questions, smoking cessation, proper goal setting, or any other relevant health topic. It is time for you to consult an RN in a private, confidential session.
It is an excellent opportunity for you to have a personal, private consultation with a registered nurse, who can provide you with ideas for improving your health. They say that retirees who have a solid social network increase their quality of life and their overall health and wellness. You need to register for this with us so please let us know if you would like to take part by responding to this emailcaretiredteachers@gmail.com
ARTA Wellness Challenge will be held in April, May, and June. This is the information taken from the ARTA Website:
Time to Get Active: Many of our members look forward to participating in ARTA’s annual Wellness Challenge year after year, and the enthusiasm is always encouraging. ARTA’s Wellness Committee has switched up the challenge this year, with a fresh new feel. The goal of the Wellness Challenge has always been to motivate people to be more active; this new version makes it easier than ever to participate.
Adults get the most value out of exercise when they do at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity at a moderate pace each week. That might sound like a big commitment, but when you break it down, it amounts to only half an hour of physical activity per day five days a week.
This year’s Wellness Challenge asks members to track at least thirty minutes of activity per day and submit their results to contests@arta.net or to their branch president.
How it Works:
Below, you will find a link to a form with three printable calendars for the months of April, May, and June. Each day you get your heart pumping for thirty minutes and check off that day’s box in the calendar to track your progress. You can also find sixty suggested activities below.
At the end of the challenge, submit all three calendars to be entered to win one of many fantastic grand prizes. If you belong to an ARTA branch, submit your results directly to your branch president, and you will be helping your fellow members compete at the branch level.
Bonus Challenge: At the end of each month, submit a picture of your wellness calendar to contests@arta.net for the chance to win random draw prizes for participating in the challenge, regardless of how many checkmarks you’ve earned.
From the ARTA Pension and Financial Wellness Committee:
The Pension and Financial Wellness Committee will be hosting an online webinar – Life Insurance and Critical Illness. The presentation will be given by Capital Estate Planning.
Do you have life insurance? A lot of families assume it’s something they won’t need — until they wish they had it.In a lot of cases, we think of Life Insurance as something that’s important when we’re young, when we have things like mortgages or young kids to take care of. But there are still uses for Life Insurance as you age! This session will be a beginner’s guide to talk about the times when insurance might make sense (and when it might not); what the different kinds of insurance look like; and how to use them to help protect your family, make things easy for your loved ones, reduce taxes, and leave a legacy.
Date: Wednesday, April 5, 2023
Time: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
