CARTA Memo for December 2022

Can it really be the end of 2022? This year seems to have gone by so quickly. The world seems a bit back to normal……thankfully!

ARTA has sent their planner, Looking Ahead 2022 -2023 – A Planner for Wellness in Retirement. We have many copies so if you would like one just send an email to caretiredteachers@gmail.com

Thank you to everyone involved in CARTA’s fiftieth Anniversary celebration. We are proud of our accomplishments and achievements of our members over the last fifty years. Thank you for all you have done to make this celebration happen. Retired teachers, like other retired groups, bring a wealth of information and knowledge to others around them! Your involvement benefits others and yourself.

News from Shirley:

It was wonderful to see a great turnout for our Christmas Luncheon on December 1. Those attending enjoyed the music of Jeremy Doody, singing of Christmas Carols, catching up with friends and colleagues. and a delicious turkey lunch catered by the Hungry Beast. A big thanks to all the “elves” for pitching in and making the day run smoothly!

Looking forward to next year, the Central Alberta Teachers’ Convention will take place February 23and 24 at the Red Deer Polytechnic (formerly Red Deer College). The CATCA organization has been extremely easy to work with and have provided us with space to set up a booth area that we share with ARTA. Near the end of January,I will be seeking members to volunteer a few hours on one of those days. This is a terrific opportunity to catch up with former colleagues, provide them with information regarding CARTA and offer suggestions on where they can find out answers to their questions ie ARTA, Pension Board. We are there to connect them to those who can advise them – we are not there to offer retirement advice. We always have several members at each shift so there are members and help is there for you if you have questions on how to direct teachers needing information.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and can find time to relax and spend time with friends and family.
