CARTA Memo for December 2021

2021 has been a year filled with hope, promise, but especially change. We have no events planned for CARTA at this time. We hope this will change very soon. Our sympathy to everyone who has lost a loved one in these difficult times. Hopefully, 2022 will be a better year for everyone.

How have you been creative in dealing with the changing circumstances? The Christmas lights have been amazing this year. Many people are opting for a drive in the country to see the changes in the countryside. More people are taking longer walks with their favourite pets and immediate family members. Jigsaw puzzles and cards adorn our tables. It will be a year to reflect on the goodness around us and be grateful for what we have. Take the time to pamper yourself and remember some of the times you have enjoyed a good laugh. I hope you will think of all the ways you can make this a special time for yourself and others through phone calls, text messages, Christmas cards, written letters to family and friends, emails, tweets, to name but a few. We need to count our blessings now and stay safe and well.

ARTA News:

The new ARTA address is 15505 137 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5L 2L5

Thank you to ARTA for a generous cheque for upcoming initiatives for activities with CARTA.

The ARTARx is preparing to launch in 2022.  You can read an article on page 27 of the current news&views magazine.

We have had a few calls about the Inkblots.  The memo sent out by ARTA refers to a counselling service offered through your ARTA Benefits Plan.  Mental health counselling, couple counselling, and financial and legal consultation could be included in your plan.  Please check page 6 of the current news and views magazine.  This service has nothing to do with our CARTA Inkblots Writers group.

And from Kaye regarding our local Ink Blots (aka Writer’s Group): Wow! The terminology is definitely confusing. However, our group is strong and well. We offer a lot of support and acceptance to one another but will be leaving the counselling to the ARTA option above. Seriously though, our writers have been meeting bi-weekly at the MAG (Museum and Art Gallery) to share writing, work with fifteen-minute writing starters and acknowledge the role of books in our writing lives.

Exciting news! Our second youth anthology, ‘On the Trail to New Worlds’ is back from the printers. Extra copies ($10) are still available. Contact Lyle (403-341-5864)

Regular meetings resume 2:00-4:00 PM, January 4 at the MAG.

ARTA Photo Contest deadline is May 31, 2022.
