OKARTA Bylaws Approved October 2026<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Article I<\/em>
\nTITLE<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. This organization shall be known as The Okanagan Branch of the Alberta Retired Teachers\u2019 Association. (OKARTA).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Article II<\/em>
    \nOBJECTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. To provide opportunities for fellowship and group activities (social events) for our members.<\/li>\n
    2. To encourage retired teachers to take an active interest in the affairs of retired teachers.<\/li>\n
    3. To help our members to keep informed about proposed changes that will likely affect them.<\/li>\n
    4. To maintain liaison with other groups interested in retired persons and their needs.<\/li>\n
    5. To give an organizational voice about our concerns to other organizations and to governmental bodies when so desired.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Article III<\/strong><\/em>
      \nMEMBERSHIP\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Voting Members<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

      Voting privileges are contingent upon the payment of the membership fee.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Education Sector Membership: <\/strong>OKARTA accepts as a member any retired teacher in receipt of an Alberta Teachers\u2019 Retirement Fund pension.<\/li>\n
      2. Associate Membership: <\/strong>OKARTA accepts as an Associate Member\n
          \n
        1. The spouse of any retired teacher<\/li>\n
        2. The widow or widower of any retired teacher<\/li>\n
        3. A retired teacher from another province, or from another educational institution<\/li>\n
        4. Any retired teacher who has been unable to qualify for an ATRF defined by ARTA, such as a substitute teacher or other private school teacher not on a formal contract<\/li>\n
        5. A former employee of the ATA or the ATRF<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        6. Life Membership: \u00a0<\/strong>OKARTA grants a free membership to any full member at the age of eighty-five (85)<\/li>\n
        7. Honorary Membership: <\/strong>OKARTA, may at its discretion, grant a free honorary life membership in recognition of service\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Non-Voting Members<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Affiliate Membership: <\/strong>\n
              \n
            1. OKARTA accepts as Affiliate Members those defined by ARTA in the Educational, Public & Private Sectors<\/li>\n
            2. OKARTA may at its discretion, accept into membership the spouse of an affiliate<\/li>\n
            3. An affiliate member may not vote or hold office<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            4. Companion Membership: <\/strong>\n
                \n
              1. OKARTA accepts as Companion Members those from the Educational, Public or Private Sectors as defined by ARTA, who are on the OKARTA email list and\n
                  \n
                1. wish to be an OKARTA member but are typically unable to attend OKARTA events<\/li>\n
                2. have provided their full contact information<\/li>\n
                3. are active listeners, interested observers and want to be kept informed<\/li>\n
                4. who want to have a liaison to ARTA when their concerns arise<\/li>\n
                5. who may be paying or non paying<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
