Spring Hike at Kleskun Hills Natural Area

A big THANK YOU to Maxine Robertson who arranged and led NWARTA members and friends on a wonderful hike at Kleskun Hills Natural Area on Wednesday, June 10th.

It was terrific weather and the scenery from the top of Garret Hill overlooking the vast prairie is incredible. While travelling provides great joy, the Peace Country is incredible in its vastness and big sky.

Maxine explained that this area is unique because there are four eco-systems: Forest, Grassland, Alpine and even Dessert. Josephine from the Museum provided a history of the area focusing on settlers who came over the Edson Trail. Since 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the Edson Trail, a cairn made of stones from various homesteads (inscribed with individual and family names) has been built and is to be officially unveiled on June 12.

Following our hike, we enjoyed the company of one another as well as our picnic lunches.
