CARTA Annual Meeting<\/strong> will be held on Tuesday, July 5<\/strong> from 3 until 5<\/strong> at the YMCA of Northern<\/strong> Alberta<\/strong>, 6391-76 St., <\/strong>Red Deer.\u00a0 \u00a0 It is very near Glendale School. We have invited Daniel Malloy, Chief Executive Officer<\/strong> with ARTA to speak as well.\u00a0 He will be able to answer your questions about ARTA, the ARTA Benefits Plan, and ARTARx<\/strong>. We will have a short annual meeting to keep you informed about CARTA.\u00a0 Please RRSP as we will need to be prepared with enough chairs, etc.<\/p>\n

Are you thinking of your fitness and wellness?\u00a0 This is the last month for the ARTA Wellness Challenge<\/strong> but you can still take part.\u00a0 You can count either steps or minutes.\u00a0 Just keep track of your activities or minutes and at the end of June pick your best thirty days and submit the total of steps or minutes.\u00a0 Check the ARTA news&views<\/em> magazine or at arta.net\/wellness-challenge<\/strong><\/a><\/u>.\u00a0 \u00a0Please let us know if you are participating so we have a list with CARTA. Also there is a mental health activity in news and views as well, for those of you not as keen on the physical component.\u00a0 Congratulations to Lavila Lang<\/strong> on winning the award for CARTA for the Wellness Challenge 2021!<\/p>\n

Fresh-air Fitness – June, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hello once again, CARTA members! I\u2019m Jim Isbister<\/strong> and I would like to thank all who joined me in May for our Barrett Park walk and City Roast coffee talk. I have two more walks happening in June and would like to invite you to join me on one or both of them. The first one is Wednesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m<\/strong>. and the second one is Monday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m<\/strong>. The same route will be followed both times and they each feature, you guessed it, coffee! This time the java is at the end, which is ok because sometimes delaying gratification is a good thing!<\/p>\n

On both dates we will walk the beautiful perimeter trail at River Bend Golf Course<\/strong> and recreation area (3800 River Bend Drive, north of the roundabout at 67th<\/sup> Street and 30th<\/sup> Avenue). There is plentiful parking at the River Bend parking lot and we will meet by the playground, which is adjacent to the lot. From there we descend a fairly gentle slope, go up an equally gentle hill and head for the forest. The path the whole way is wide and generally flat.<\/p>\n

Most of the walk is in the woods, adjacent to the Red Deer River, and the scenery is beautiful. There are typically lots of small birds as well as squirrels and sometimes even larger animals such as deer and the occasional moose. It\u2019s sometimes hard to believe there can be so much nature, only steps away from a golf course. A walk up a short hill brings us back to the clubhouse and an opportunity to have a coffee, or other beverage, on the spacious balcony<\/p>\n

deck and watch the golfers do their thing. The route is 2.7 km (1.7 miles) from the playground to the clubhouse and takes about 50 minutes to complete. If you are joining us for coffee only, remember to look for me wearing my black Columbia cap or Tilley sun hat (both are protection against the rays as I\u2019m follicly challenged). As mentioned last month I walk in most types of<\/p>\n

weather, except for thunderstorms and steady rain. I hope you are able to join me for one or both of the walks!<\/p>\n

Or perhaps you would like to try Lawn Bowling<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Collicutt Centre in Red Deer will begin offering indoor\u00a0lawn bowling<\/strong>\u00a0(not carpet bowling or bocce) beginning Monday, March 7, 2022, from 3:00 until 5:00 at the Collicutt Centre Soccer Pavilion.<\/p>\n

There are dozens of different size sets of lawn bowls to use, free of charge.\u00a0 A seasoned lawn bowler will always be present, if you are new to the sport.\u00a0 The cost to attend is covered by your monthly Collicutt pass (roughly $41\/month for a senior; $37 for the second senior in the household) or else you can pay a daily pass ($8.25).<\/p>\n

Are you interested in a CARD Making Class <\/strong>\u2026\u2026.. If we have enough interest we would like to plan a card making class.\u00a0 Please let us know if you are interested by responding to this email.<\/p>\n

And don\u2019t forget about our CARTA Inkblots<\/strong>!\u00a0 They continue to be a very active and supportive group that meet regularly.\u00a0 If you have an interest in writing this could be the group for you.\u00a0 They usually have a reading component as well.\u00a0 And remember, there is no pressure if you are a bit shy.\u00a0 Come, listen, participate at a pace you like.\u00a0 They have already published four anthologies and work is underway for the fifth!<\/p>\n
